The peasant poet, John Clare, was a frequent visitor to the Flower
Pot pub in Tickencote from early 1817 while working as ploughman, gardener
and lime burner in neighbouring villages and while courting 'Sweet
Patty' whom he later married. It closed in the late 19th century and
is now called Flower Pot Cottage. Next door is Losecoat Cottage deriving
its name from the nearby Battle of Losecoat Field when fleeing soldier
threw of their coats during the Wars of the Roses. Semi detached to
this house Dawson's Cottage, the only thatched cottage in the village.
