The church has a unique quintuple Norman Chancel arch probably built
between 1130 and 1170 and has remained untouched. The rare sexpartite
vaulting in the little chancel hardly existed elsewhere in Romanesque
work until William of Sens imported it to Canterbury Cathedral in 1175
and later copied in Lincoln Minster. It was rebuilt by Eliza Winfield
from designs by S. P. Cockerell in imitation of the original work,
together with the western part of the church in a Late 18th century
version of Norman architecture.
